I am taking my 9 year old daughter to Italy in 07,but we will be on a budget. Would it be better to go Spring or fall, we want to get the most out of it because we may never get to go back.

You asked the right person. =) I have lived in southern italy for the last two and a half years. Perhaps the best time to come is May. There are few other tourists, the temperature is nice, and the prices are lower than the summer months. If that's not possible, just make sure that you DO NOT COME IN AUGUST! All the Italians go on vacation during August, some of them close their businesses for the entire month so that they can go on vacation. Also, dont reserve your hotel in advance, just show up and see what happens, you can often find a better deal.

Late September and October are the best times. Temperatures are mid-70's F, and most of the tourists have gone home. We travelled for a month there a few years ago, from Lake Como to Positano, and the weather was incredible, and prices were way down.

April or May is beautiful and low season and not too hot in Rome and the south. But if the beach is your main attraction, it may be too cold for a swim. July is very hot, especially in Rome and the south and you have to book hotels very much in advance. Prices are higher too.

italy is so awesome but you are better off going in the spring, it ios much more beautiful., but a little more expensive, so maybe in the fall is better
